COME ONE COME ALL! RETAKE THE TIBER RIVER on May 3rd (Rome's Mayor, USA Ambassador & Citizens of Rome UNITE!)   Join those born and raised in Rome, those studying here for a few months, those who relocated here to live a lifetime, those working here on diplomatic mission representing President Obama, and the Mayor of the Eternal City.  These are just some of the protagonists committing to participate in "RETAKE TEVERE" on Saturday, May 3rd. This civic initiative is being organized by the grassroots movement Retake Roma (operating under the auspices of the Foundation Giuseppe Garibaldi) and TeverEterno, working together side by side with the city administration to restore the decorum of the city - this time in the area near Ponte Risorgimento.  Having slightly different aims, these two volunteer civic groups will unite for a common purpose: to spotlight the important role civic activism can play to support city administration and restore the eternal city to its former beauty. Citizens, visitors and students will roll up their sleeves together to combat abusive grafitti (tags), abusive publicity stickers, and litter. Supported by AMA and PICS Decoro, the volunteers will also be joined by the Mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino, the Ambassador of the United States to Italy, John R. Phillips, Rome's Councilwoman for the Environment, Estelle Marino, and the President of the 1st Municipal District (historic center) Sabrina Alfonsi. The appointment is at Piazza Monte Grappa (next to the Risorgimento Bridge where it crosses the Tiber into Prati) at 14.30, where the water fountain Dea Roma / Roman Goddess sculpted by Igor Mitoraj will be reactivated after 5 years of disconnection.  Anyone wanting to get an earlier start has two additional opportunities:  a bicycle ride starting from the southern end of the Tiber, organized by TeverEterno with the meeting point at 10.00 at Ponte della Scienza (Ostiense); and a "Retake" organized by Retake Roma with meeting point at Piazza della Libertá at 12.00. Both groups will work their way (the first on bike, the other on foot)  towards Piazza Monte Grappa to meet Mayor Marino and Ambassador Phillips at 14.30.    What should you bring? Only a desire to spend a special day together with other civic-minded people, make new acquaintances, and give a hand toward improving the livability of our city.
